Each vase is unglazed — fired to a raw, matte finish that exposes the clay body in its most honest state, then hand-tied with hemp rope that adds warmth and a slow-living character.
Su Shao — the unglazed firing technique
Su Shao (素烧) is a traditional Chinese firing technique where clay is fired without glaze — leaving the raw clay body exposed. The result is a sophisticated matte surface with a slightly rough, earthy texture that changes subtly with light. Unlike glazed ceramics, Su Shao pieces feel alive — warm, tactile, and deeply natural.
