Dragon's Blood sage combines white sage with Dragon's Blood resin — a dark red resin harvested from the Dracaena tree. The result is a deeper, richer smoke with a stronger presence than standard white sage. The resin adds a warm, slightly sweet undertone that lingers after the smoke clears.
What it's used for: stronger smoke cleansing for spaces that carry heavy energy (new homes, after a long week), a protection ritual layered on top of a plain white sage cleanse, passing crystals through the smoke, and — once you cut the string and burn it loose — a longer, continuous burn similar to dry-burning loose herbs.
How to use
- Burn it — Hold over a fireproof bowl at a slight downward angle. Light the tip and hold the flame for about 20–30 seconds until you see a red ember, then keep the flame on it for another 10 seconds before blowing out. The resin coating causes a slightly slower, more even burn than plain sage. Fully lit, one light gives you around 2–3 minutes of steady smoke. A little black smoke right after blowing out is normal and clears in a second or two.
- Loosen it for a longer burn — Cut the string and let the leaves fall open in your fireproof bowl, then light loosely: with more surface area exposed, it can burn for about 5 minutes instead of needing to be relit — expect a bit more smoke given the resin coating.
- Relight as needed — The same bundle can be relit many times — you don't need to burn through it all in one sitting. Press the lit end into a bowl to extinguish safely, then store and relight later.
- Deep clearing — Use Dragon's Blood sage for stronger clearing sessions — new homes, or spaces that carry heavy energy.
- Protection ritual — Dragon's Blood resin is traditionally associated with protection. Burn after white sage for a two-step cleanse and seal.
