Why Australian tea tree specifically
Melaleuca alternifolia is native to the coastal regions of New South Wales, Australia, and that's still where the vast majority of genuine tea tree oil is grown and distilled. Unlike lavender or peppermint, there isn't a well-established second commercial origin — Australian production essentially set, and remains, the global benchmark for the plant. Species substitution is a real issue with tea tree
"Tea tree" is sometimes used loosely for other Melaleuca species with different, less-studied chemical profiles. Genuine tea tree oil should specifically list Melaleuca alternifolia as its botanical source — not just "Melaleuca oil" or "tea tree oil" without a species name. Ours does.
Ways to use it
Diffuser
3–5 drops per 100ml of water, or 20–30 drops in the Siphon Nebulizer — a clean, fresh scent especially popular in bathrooms and kitchens.
Lava Stone
Drop 3–5 drops onto lava stones for 24–48 hours of passive, electricity-free fragrance.
Diluted Skin Support
1 drop per teaspoon of carrier oil for spot application. Always dilute and patch test first — tea tree can irritate sensitive skin even diluted.
Natural Cleaning
A few drops in a homemade surface spray for its fresh, clean scent.

Is tea tree oil safe for pets?
No — tea tree oil is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested or applied undiluted, one of the more serious and well-documented essential oil cautions for pet owners. Keep it well out of reach of pets, never apply it directly to an animal, and consult a vet immediately if you suspect exposure.
