100% Pure · Undiluted · Single Origin · Italy · 10ml

Cold-pressed from Citrus bergamia grown in Italy — bright, citrusy, and gently floral, with a signature calm-yet-uplifting quality that no other citrus oil quite matches. One botanical, one origin, nothing added.

Why Italian bergamot specifically

Calabria, in southern Italy, produces the large majority of the world's bergamot — the region's coastal microclimate is considered the plant's natural home and the industry benchmark origin. Bergamot grown here is prized for a rounded, less sharp citrus profile than lemon or lime, with the soft floral note that made it famous as the defining flavour of Earl Grey tea. Curious why almost all bergamot comes from one place? Read Bergamot Essential Oil — Why Almost All of It Comes From One Place.

How this differs from other "bergamot oil" on the market

  • Real cold-pressed vs. fragrance blends. A lot of "bergamot oil" sold cheaply is a synthetic reconstruction built from linalyl acetate and other aroma chemicals rather than actual cold-pressed rind. Ours is cold-pressed from the real fruit.
  • FCF vs. regular — know which you're buying. Some bergamot oil has its natural furocoumarins (including bergapten) removed to make it "FCF" (furocoumarin-free) and safer for direct skin use in sunlight; regular bergamot has not been processed this way. This bottle is the regular, unprocessed oil — see the safety note below before applying to skin.
  • Not stretched with cheaper citrus. Because true bergamot has a low yield, it's one of the more commonly extended oils — cut with cheaper orange or lemon oil to increase volume. Ours is 100% bergamot, nothing blended in.

What "pure essential oil" actually means

Pure means exactly one thing: this bottle contains only cold-pressed bergamot oil — nothing else. No carrier oil, no synthetic reconstruction, no fragrance additives. Because it's a real agricultural extract and not a lab-replicated formula, you may notice small, natural variations in scent intensity between harvests — that's a sign of authenticity, not inconsistency. It's also why it needs to be diluted before it touches skin: a "fragrance oil" is weak enough to use directly, but a true essential oil is concentrated enough that undiluted skin contact can irritate.

Ways to use it

Diffuser

3–5 drops per 100ml of water, or 20–30 drops in the Siphon Nebulizer for undiluted diffusion — a good desk or living room pick-me-up.

Lava Stone

Drop 3–5 drops onto lava stones for 24–48 hours of passive, electricity-free fragrance.

Inhalation

1 drop on a tissue or your palms, cup over your nose, and breathe deeply — a bright pick-me-up on a busy day.

Topical / Bath

Dilute 2–3 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil. Bergamot is phototoxic — avoid direct sun or UV exposure on treated skin for 12–18 hours after topical use.

Frequently asked

Is bergamot oil safe to wear in the sun?

Not on skin. Regular (non-FCF) bergamot oil contains natural compounds that increase sun sensitivity — avoid applying it topically before UV exposure. It's completely fine to diffuse or inhale; the caution is specifically about skin contact before sunlight.

Is this the same bergamot used to flavour Earl Grey tea?

Yes — it's the same fruit and the same essential oil family used to flavour Earl Grey, though tea-flavouring extracts are typically far more diluted than a pure essential oil.

Which diffuser pairs best with this oil?

For the strongest effect, use our Siphon Nebulizing Diffuser. For a gentler, ambient scent, use a Lava Stone Diffuser or a standard water diffuser.

Is bergamot oil safe for pets?

Citrus essential oils, including bergamot, can be harmful to cats in particular. Always diffuse in a well-ventilated room and let pets leave if the scent seems too strong. Consult a vet if you have specific concerns.

Materials + Care

Each item is close to its natural form — dried herbs, pure oils, hand-finished ceramics — so no two are perfectly identical, and that's intentional. Keep oils capped and away from direct light; store bundles and botanicals somewhere dry.
